day 91: under construction

Every time I catch the Amtrak from MA to NY we pass by this mural. Its across from the train station in Rhode Island and its really big and crazy and intense. Also intense is this shady cell phone picture and for that, i apologize. If I could have gotten out of the train and taken an up close shot of this, then I would have done that for all of you. Tomorrow I will make it all better by taking a world class photo worthy only of this blog.

gnight all!

Day 90: At This Performance

...the role of "Jesus" will be played by Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger. I was so lost in my game of Freecell on the bus this morning that I missed my stop and had to walk up an extra block. That's when I happened upon these sign-holders (thanks Freecell!). First I thought they were your run-of-the-mill crazies screaming about how Capitalism and George Bush are responsible for the ice caps melting which is affecting the recent rise in Black people and the Bible says that's bad. Au contraire, my friends. The flip side was this:

And they were just wishing all the passersby a Merry Christmas. Verbally. It's like they had no cold, jaded, judgey, mischievous thoughts in their big, open hearts at all. I don't understand people like that. I think they're something suspect about unsolicited kindness. What? I've been living in New York for too long? Why, yes I think you're quite right.

day 90: watchin the clouds

apparently today I decided to be artsy. These things just come to me without planning or pre-conceived thought. I was sitting in the car with my sister in the little town of Worcester (pronounce Wooster.... fake), when i snapped this shot. I thought it was cool. no? no? anyone?

now i have to go to bed with all the lights on cause I just saw I am Legend and peed my pants the whole way through and will forever be afraid of the dark and human mutating viruses.

gnight!

Day 89 is wassailing already

I'M SORRY I LOVE CHRISTMAS SO MUCH I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF. Perhaps you remember when this tree was being installed. I do. Today it was all lit up and glorious. I took so many pictures I couldn't pick just one. Enjoy the splendor.

day 89: Turkey recovery

Today was a day of recovery. everyone knows the best way to recover from a turkey dinner coma is to keep eating turkey leftovers between naps. the more gravy you can pour onto said leftovers, the better you'll feel. Also the more carbs you can consume with leftovers, the better.

Look at nimbus here. Nimbus is in doggy heaven. I'm that person who is 100% anti feeding dogs table food, but give me one pouty puppy face from this beast, and I'm done. Done. I will feed this dog the entire turkey if he gave the face long enough. This is what I looked like all day, I hope you all did too.

Day 88 keeps it light

As much as I rag on AVH for taking blurry pics, my weakness pictures of views. I just love them. Today was no exception. Chicago has an incredible skyline and it's beautiful and different everywhere you go. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

day 88: that turkey didn't have a chance!

hope you all are stuffed and full of turkey and a shit load of carbs. or, if you're elie... have seen enough movies to last you a couple weeks. I'm tired, and so stuffed with food i'm having trouble taking deep breaths. All you get today is this shot of a turkey that didn't have a chance. that bird was done and eaten in a matter of minutes! And how delicious it was!

Day 87 twinkle twinkles, Little Star

I'll let you in on a little secret: I love Christmas. That's actually not a secret. All my friends know that and make fun of me for it. But I will continue to be the Jew that loves Christmas regardless of what anyone says. Look at all the lights in the trees! Look at that blurred car in the background (so AVH has something to look at)! Look at my face lit up like those trees (I know you can't but pretend)! Look!!

Day 87: make way for the wild turkeys

HELLO!! wild turkeys ya'll!! This is definitely a first. How often does one come this close to a real live non-butterball wild turkey?? Well, once in Wisconsin I ate some freshly shot wild turkey and part of that experience was getting to pick out the BB gun pellets from my turkey breast..... so awesome. But these guys were just taking a morning stroll I suppose. Perhaps they sensed that their lives were in danger on the day before "Turkey Day". Smart little turkeys....

gnight all!

(another turkey picture for your viewing pleasure)

Day 86 plays favorites

I don't know what it is about this building but I love it. It's directly across from my apartment on the East side and I can see it all day long from my couch and more closely from the gym downstairs. There's just something about the architecture and detailing. I snapped this today just before the sun set. Simple.

Day 86: It all goes to the birds

This scene was important enough to capture that I ditched an important (fake) conversation with the other pho[blogger] to snap it. It didn't actually come out as cool as it looked in real life and for that I am truly sorry. BUT....these birds are literally risking their lives to eat this.... food? rice? pebbles? hair? This all went down in chinatown so they're probably eating something dirty. Or they're eating a fake coach bag. you decide....

gnight all!

Day 85 is takin' it easy

Slow news day today. Clinton back in the White House, floods in Brazil, London minister challenges his congregation to have sex for a week straight... I had a slow day too. These CDs were all that interested me enough to snap a picture. Hopefully things get wilder tomorrow.

day 85: endless.... huh?

there's this awesome store downtown called this....

I know that flax seeds can be used to make certain types of fabric, and that is probably why the store is called "endless flax", but every time i walk by I just think of old people scooping spoonfuls of metamucil into 8-10 glasses of water praying for an end to their intestinal blockage. That was graphic.... welcome to the inner workings of my mind.

I think that after your big turkey dinner everyone should have some.... Endless Flax.

(ps. elie loves metamucil)

Day 84 likes the convenience

This pizza place is IN the subway station. INSIDE. How easy is that? You can get blasted, stumble to the train and grab your drunk food right on the way. Every train station should be like this. Cramazing.

day 84: clean it up and clean it out

Today, in order to ensure that it didn't suck ass like friday and saturday, i choose not to interact with any other members of the human species, and instead focus on the finer things in life... like laundry.

What i love most about laundry in the winter is that it comes out warm and you just want to roll around in it and wrap yourself in a ball of fresh laundry and never leave. i spent most of my sunday savoring in that little gift from baby jesus.

and eating left over pizza, of course.

Day 83 likes its public health colorful

Look! Someone put stickers on the sign! (I'm so exhausted, this is all I got.)

day 83: my strength lies in the pizza

this right here. this saved me.

i could give two shits about carbs and cheese and trans fat and what have you. when you had a day that felt a lot like you were being beaten with a stick for 9 hours straight you need pizza and you need it yesterday (with a little ice cream for a side dish).

in about 25 minutes, only half of this beauty was left. and that my friends, will be breakfast.

Day 82 still plays with Tonka trucks

Remember when I said that sometimes I just like mundane, common things? Yep.

day 82: A train goin by

today was a loooooooooooooooooooong day.

this was all i could muster up the strength to catch. but i actually really like it now. You all hate it cause its a blur and i'm so predictable.... but you can see that its an A (in blue) train quickly approaching to take me home. and take me home it did.

goodnight all. Here's to hoping tomorrow is much, much better.

Day 81 is a small-town kinda guy

This row of houses (rowhouses? What are rowhouses? Just houses in a row?) is between the train and my apartment so I pass it twice a day. I just like them. They're all so clean and straight. They were super decorated for Halloween and Christmas decorations have already started to go up. I think of big, fun families living in them and it makes me happy. You know those stretches of certain neighborhoods or city blocks or row of buildings that you just like for no good reason? You walk a block or two out of your way to see them once in a while? This is one of mine. I like these houses.

day 81: singin the blues away

thanks to an A/C line that was down due to "signal problems" (fake), I was forced to get off the train at times square and walk to different train. i was angry and not in the mood. Then I walked into this dance party on the corner of Broadway! Who doesn't love a dance party?? Actually, I really don't like my dance parties to take place during rush hour in the middle of the sidewalks but these guys were really good!!

I was, however, really concerned that they're not wearing coats. That just made them more magical.

remember, if you're feelin down, just dance it out

day 80: christmas revenge??

(is this really day 80?!)

just to be clear.... this window display involves two christmas trees that move back and forth to reveal a man in plaid bound with garland with an ornament shoved in his mouth.

clearly this is new yorks idea of christmas cheer. What did this poor gent do to deserve this besides wear plaid?? Also, the window says Revenge of the Christmas..... something. the last word is cut off in this picture and i blame the 16* weather for keeping me from getting a better shot.

enjoy!

Day 80 says BACK OFF

I was enjoying the massive Christmas tree being installed in the plaza near work today, just taking in the Christmas joy and loving the season for a moment (Jews can do that too!)...

...when I noticed something...

...on the back of said tree-installing truck...

...that was decidedly not holiday spiritful.

See what this world is coming to?

Day 79 likes the simpler things

Sometimes I think the day's photo needs to be a great work of art. Sometimes I feel it should make a bold statement. Sometimes I want it to just reflect what's happening in my world. And sometimes I find very common, ubiquitous things incredibly interesting and appealing. Today is one of those days.

day 79: what a blur

I guess my title is not very witty or inspiring. Sometimes your day just takes your spirit and breaks it in half and you feel like you've been beaten with a 2x4 for about 9 hours straight.

My day felt a lot like this. Some things were clear... like having breakfast, consuming coffee and staring at a computer screen. Others were a huge blur. I think I went into autopilot on my way home. You know when you kind of zone out and suddenly you're pulling out your keys and walkin through the door. Oh yes, that was my day.

tomorrow will be better. and if it isnt, I will buy ice cream.

day 78: wear your plaid

i wish i had captured a better image of this gem for you all but i did my best! i hope you can still appreciate the amazingness of this plaid limo despite the limitations of my camera phone (i will remember my camera when i go to lunch from now on, i swear). also, someone please tell me what this is and how i can be a part of it. my sisters guess was some crazy MTV show that involves bad girls dating Flava Flav while Sharon Osbourne watches their sweet 16 and they get Made into Carson Daly or some shit..... idk, just something lame and mtv-y.

the point is, its kind of awesome in a girly MTV way and I want to see it again so i can get a better picture!!

(ps. sorry this is a little late. I tried to post at least 3 times tonight with my firefox crashing each time. there's only so much a girl can take!!)

Day 78 will be in in its trailer

I was on set for my first commercial shoot all day today. I was a football player and I'm beaten and bruised and in pain. But I'm finally an actor and ball player all at once! The scene was lit very specifically so we spent most of the day in the dark in this arena. I thought it seemed like a very stereotypical sports-themed film set and I liked how this looked.

Let it Day 77, let it Day 77, Let it Day 77

Catchy, ain't it? It snowed here tonight. Not a few flakes, not a light flutter. SNOW. Gets me excited every year. The first time, that is. In about three weeks I'll be missing home like it's my job. But for now, fun!

day 77: it will never die

just when you thought that we were done with obama-mania.... BAM! oh how wrong you were. First of all...who are these people who own cars in new york? you are an enigma to me, peeps.

anywhoooo, this obama magnet gem was spotted on the UWS. i wanted to steal it. but obama wouldn't want that. WWOD - thats how we should go on with our lives starting this moment. would obama steal that magnet? No.

I'm Aislinn H. and I endorse this message.

Day 76 looks better at night when it's all lit up

There's major construction going on outside our theatre. And... everywhere else in the city. Annoying and loud? yes. Photogenic and cool? Very.

Ps. Sorry this is late. There were technical difficulties. I promise I'm no KCanny (OH SNAP!)

day 76: cheese obsession

every single party i go to from now till the end of time MUST have a Quotes/Funny things board!! absolute hilarity and a great conversation starter. this was actually board 2 after board 1 had been photographed and erased. board one had a lot to do with cheese, and board 2 was off to a similar start. I love everything about this. i don't know why cheese was the word of the night in the westchester, but everyone was talkin about cheese. brie, cheese and crackers, wine that smelled like cheese, cream cheese.... amazing.

"just keep the cheese coming and we're okay". wiser words were never spoken.

Day 75: A History Lesson

Today I was walking home from Target (!!!) and I came upon these... statues? pillars? public art? Everyone's confused. But I realized that they tell a story as you make your away across the overpass (you may recognize it from Day 50). First, we have a compass. Symbol of math and geography. This would be your Math and
Science department. Educational, insightful, important.

Next we move to mammals. Whales are awesome animals and one of my faves. Biology class was NOT one of my faves for many reasons. But I understood that it's important.

Lastly, History class. Not your boring, dry, Wars and Plagues crap. DINOSAURS!

These guys are incredible! I want to take them home and have them knock down block towers and eat other toys.

I'll say it: I love dinos.

day 76: all things blue

today i managed to get my hands on my delicious crunchy gummi bears (you're all jealous) thanks to brenda who continues to be awesome for her tendency to bring in sweets. the effect was this lovelyness. i wasn't sure if anyone wanted to see a picture of my tongue (still not sure anyone wants that), but here you have it. this was after just 2 bears. that's some major food coloring. my teeth were blue also. another super star side effect.

all in the name of candy.

Day 74 is hopped up on caffeine

Who knew about these? Did you? They're amazing! My new building has a common room downstairs with free wifi, a bigscreen TV with cable, a computer and printer station and FREE COFFEE. Did you get that? Coffee. That is free. For me to drink. I admit I haven't been taking advantage of the greatest gift god has ever given me but all that changed this morning. I went down to get some coffee, expecting it to be pre-made and ready to pour. There's participation involved (which is pretty upsetting first thing in the morning) but it's actually fun! These little pods of caffeine goodness go into the nifty machine by pressing a sweet lever. Then all you do is press "Brew" and it brews! AMAZING. I want one. Coffee has never been a party before!

Ps. I may or may not have gone back tonight for more. I SAID MAY OR MAY NOT.

day 74: warehouse sale wars

note to all: warehouse sales are not for the weak. its best to stretch prior to arriving. if you can find the time to do a lap or two, definitely try to work that in. also not good for large sales..... rain. my favorite part about this picture is the evil eye. the eye is staring at us.

i wish i had more energy to discuss with you all the happy joys of warehouse sales but my spirit is broken. this is because i spent my evening standing at the door of a dressing room watching ladies who should never be naked, get naked. my eyes are bleeding as i type this.

Day 73 saw a dark shadow pass over the moon

It's cold and rainy and gloomy in Chicago and aside from getting a new jacket, I don't like it. Tonight is foggy too. And the only good thing is the cool pictures I took. This building looks distant and mysterious and night pictures always put up cool colors I never expect. In short: me likey.
