day 242: LOVE

I love (!) that I found this today. It was not here as of Tuesday cause I walked this street that day. Or i was just walking so quickly and so into my head and thoughts I just walked right by. I hope that wasn't the case cause it makes me said that I miss beautiful and awesome scenes like this when i'm in my own head space. h'anyway. Here's some love that exists on the streets. Yes, love.

Day 241 heeds the warnings

My dad and stepmom are remodeling the house and the patio was the first thing to go. Actually the very first thing to go were the steps out our back door. This left us with a hole and no way to get down into it. The construction crew put up this sign which I think is hilarious. Our pets, however, do not.

day 241: flyin high

Only in soho....

Day 240 is curious

Steph got a new cat. And by "got" I mean "found in the bushes". And by "cat" I mean "this kitten is a tiny fuzzball that fits in my hand and is too tiny to be real". And is also too adorable for words.

PS. We're 2/3 done with this little blogject of ours.

day 240: little old ladies

this is just weird, right? Can we all agree this is a little creepy and also stare-worthy? Is it a man? a woman? a hobbit? Dumbledore? I wish i knew... Also, why are there no pants? I'm a fan of the no pants look myself, but in the comfort of my own home and/or the beach.

day 239: translating

Let's go over the beautiful messages seen in this picture:

1. RESPECT. Stop throwing your shit on the ground
2. OUTERNATIONAL!
3. This year I'm really going to quite drugs Kosbe
4. Wowzers whyou suckin? 200009
5. Kosbe I'm curious all that it takes

There are some here I can't quite make out. But i'm sure they are all awesome!

Day 239 and the Half-Street Prince

I checked Google Maps for walking directions this morning and it told me to turn left at 25 1/2 St. I thought this was hilarious and wondered if they do any work at Googleplex in between free massages, free haircuts, gourmet lunches and segway rides (you think I'm exaggerating...). Sure enough, I set out this morning and I find this sign. Hilarious! I wish more than anything that I lived on this Harry Potter street. I'd make everyone say some magic words and run through the wall where my door should be. Amazing.

Day 238 is a kid in a candy mall

Mall of America: 4.2 million sq ft, 520+ stores, 11,000+ employees, 4 floors, 1 amusement park. No sales tax on clothing in MN: priceless.

day 238: an original slice

who knew THE original Ray's Pizza was in my hood?! I was pretty psyched that I found this place. I was nay in the mood for a warm slice of pizza on a hot day, but that didn't stop me from admiring the old-school typography (questionable) and color choices (also questionable). actually now that i'm writing this, i could use a slice.....

gnight!

day 237: reflections in the park

on my camera this picture looked really nice and outdoorsy, but when I looked at it just now it just looks like some deserted wilderness that no one wants to be a part of, except maybe the people who live in those buildings back there. What I was trying to capture was the reflection of the buildings in the water (ps. water in central park by my apt, who knew??) Actually apparently there's a waterfall and ducks in this area of the park. It was very confusing for me. I'm used to squirrels and dirty public restrooms, ya know?

Day 237 likes creep-crawlers

RR and I went to get some ice cream today at Sebastian Joe's (it's worth it) and we found this on the sidewalk. I missed it entirely but Eagle-Eye Rahamim exclaimed, "Are those ants??!" In fact, my friends, what I mistook for some dirty on the pavement was hundreds and hundreds of ants (go back and look at the picture again). Fascinating! We couldn't figure out why they were congregating in this one spot but we watched them for quite a while. Nature is so weird/cool.

Day 236 needs a compass

Get it?? The Uptown Diner! At their Downtown location! Minneapolis is so weird...

Day 235 is not a sheep

Grand Central Station: one of my favorite places in the city. Also one of the places I almost never visit. Makes each time more special I guess. I think the architecture, the history, the artwork, the people are beautiful and interesting and inspiring. Plus Improv Everywhere is the bomb.com. (Extra 10 points if you get the sheep reference)

day 236: strolling in the city

hey, rock center! Actually this isn't AT rockefeller center, but its close by and it's part of what i associate rock center to be so i'm keeping it. Decided to go for a stroll around the city post work, get reacquainted with my love and soak in some sun and delicious street hot dogs. It was beautiful and awesome, plus I got this shot.

day 235: bring on the kids

who came up with the idea of taking your kids to work? Sounds like a GREAT idea in theory. Unless you're with over a dozen kids for almost 5 hours straight. (in heels. never again with the heels.) with paint, coloring, running, pizza, cupcakes, tours, etc.....

it was actually a very fun day, i swear! But I did have to recoup and remind myself why it is people do not have kids 15 at a time (excluding the octo-mom....). ah, kids

Day 234 discovers uncharted territory

Look! A strange, new land never before seen by Manhattanites: Brooklyn!

It was a slow day. Cool shot though.

Day 234: very charming, indeed

it was another jam packed subway ride and today this girl was literally so close to me that her bag (pictured) was all up in my space! While i don't appreciate the invasion of personal space, I did appreciate the photo op that kind of fell into my lap (man, i'm witty....)

Day 233 sees the light

While waiting for the S train (fake, I know) in Brooklyn today, I noticed how gorgeous the station is. The tracks are set down below street level but it's open on top which allows in direct sunlight (and cell reception!). The moss on the wall and light through the end of the tunnel makes for this nifty view.

Day 232 follows all the rules

Rice to Riches. A New York City establishment. Incredible food, amazing flavors, delicious toppings, absurdly expensive... all the things we want out of our restaurants. R2R (it'll catch on) has taken it one step further with its rules, however. I think they could change lives. Read them. Own them. Love them. (If only I could apply this to merch...)

Ed: It's come to my attention that the sign is hard to see. It reads:

"SURCHARGES
We charge for:
-Hard questions
-Pondering
-Indecision
-Just looking
-Still thinking
or
-Additional time

Extra charge if you've never had rice pudding before!"

Day 231 lost track of time

Strolling down 44th street the other day we caught sight of this poster advertising a "new" kids show coming to New York on Dec. 5, 2007.

Make sure to get your tickets... a year and a half ago?

day 233: all in a row

what are these mysterious little things? All in a row, sitting and staring and looking creepy. You'd think this was the window to a museum or crazy shop or something. nope. carpet store. they sell carpet (and specialty rugs). so..... clearly this is a great addition to their offerings....

Monday, April 20, 2009

day 232: that is enough, thank you

everyone reacts to the economy in their own way, true. I however, would like to put my vote in for not wanting to see signs everywhere about it. I get it. We all get it. My bank account gets it and the new outrageously high metro card fares get it. okay?

That's all. :)

day 231: enjoying a nice book

its always nice to see small children sitting alone on a bench at 10pm on Broadway and 51st. It's safe. It's fun for the whole family. and also, it's safe. These aren't real kids, i'm just proving the point that it's safe, so.... yeah.

holla crazy "antique" furniture shops! I'm sure I could find a month's worth of pictures in this place, cause places like this always have the craziest shit in them! beautiful.

also, here's a photreat for ya'll!!

look, its EB with the kids!

Day 230 is the outdoorsy type

We biked the park today! All 6.1mi of it! It was warm and sunny and fun and awesome! These are our bikes! I'll be less passive-aggressive by tomorrow! I promise!

Day 229 is so old it's new again

I hate to admit that AVH is right about, well, anything, but Soho is pretty rife with good photo ops. Remember that old poster of the construction workers you've seen a hundred times but really know who they are or why the picture was taken or what point was trying to be made? Well here they've been seated on some scaffolding. Get it? It's awesome. Still angry here.

Day 228 creeps in the shadows

I was walking down the block. There was a fence. It was sunny. The shadows looked cool. I miss my phone.

Day 227 will spell it out for you.

This R is from the set of Twyla Tharp's "The Times They are a-Changin'". I don't really understand how it came to be in M and D's kitchen but it's the coolest thing I've ever seen in anyone's apartment so I don't really care. Hey, I'm out one phone and I've missed like five days of posting pictures. Don't fight me on this.

Day 226 is pissed.

I arrived in New York and several things happened all at once: I took an incredibly long cab ride into the city, took a second cab ride to M's office during which I passed the Cash Cab and snapped my pic o' day on my phone, got keys to M and D's apartment and took yet another cab out to the BK and, upon leaving said cab, left my phone in the backseat with said picture still on it, got into M and D's apartment and, despondent over my lost phone, went out drinking.

That's a lot of information to process. I'll break it down for you in simple terms: my phone is gone, I've been playing catch-up with other cameras and my new (outrageously expensive) phone and here they all are.

Ps. There's no photo today (like last time) because I took it but it's lost somewhere. Hopefully I'll get it back one day soon. Until then, I'm pissed off and now you don't have a picture to look at. SUCKS, DON'T IT?

day 230: soakin up the sun

it was a beautiful day in the city and the people were out in the park in droves. and, you know, everyone decided to celebrate the warmth in their own way. my friends and I went on a kick ass bike ride, others had a picnic lunch on the grass, and some played with their kids. Then there was this guy..........

enough said.

(ps. this is one of my FAVE pics. this is making it to my top 10 pics of the year, a thing i just invented but either way, this is making it on to there!)

day 229: like a puppy

puppies!!!

i'm not usually a cute, fuzzy little animals person but these little guys were jumping and playing and just needing to be loved and watched (but please don't touch the glass....). They were literally not still for even a second and you can tell their personalities from this picture. little dude on the left was wild and crazy and the white furry creature was a little bit more calm, collected and patient. i was so in love with them! and i wasn't even drunk!

day 228: crunch the numbers

i'm SO happy i found this sign! seriously, read it. it's perfect. also i'm going on a fabulous bike ride saturday and am no joke thinking about saving myself over $300 in subway fare this summer by biking to work. what do you think??

day 227: writing on the wall

i never thought i'd experience a underground subway station that was worse than the times square station. But i think TSQ has found its match! F*CKIN canal street N/R/Q/W mess ain't no joke! its a battle for your life below ground. The trains were a mess. it took 10 minutes of walking just to find the right platform. Then there was a stall or something so we had to walk up to another platform and in the 10 minutes it took us to get there, no joke, they fixed the stall and we had to walk BACK to the original platform. everyone was pissed. everyone was pushing. people were invading my personal bubble. it was a hot, hot, hot mess!

phew.... now that i got that off my chest. Look at what lives in that underground station hell! it's random, its cool, it makes no sense and i love it!

day 226: more flowers in the city

spotted this on my way to dinner tonight. I can't help but feeling like this would be more appropriate if it wasn't a rainy and kinda gross day! It is a fun scene, nonetheless. I can't wait for more warm weather when these little flower decorated bikes pop up all over the city. ah, warm weather..... a girl can dream!

Day 225 looks upward

The Doubletree on Washington has a glass elevator!
Need I say more?

Day 224: Signed, sealed, delivered

Backstage at the Opera House is a mural for every show that plays there with signatures from the entire company. The walls are getting pretty filled so they've started wrapping around into the stairwell that leads up to the wings. I (barely) remembered to sign before leaving and snapped this shot as a memory. We used to do this for every show in high school so I love the tradition. Plus I think the painting is really cool! (If you're wondering, I'm on the very far right, third down with the parentheses.)

day 225: the flowers have arrived!

yay tulips!! These remind me of the one nice thing about FCLC - the tulips that bloomed at the front entrance at the start of every spring. I hope these blooming tulips mean the cold weather is finally making an exit cause that shit is getting old!! Holla, spring!

day 224: unzipped

so..... i do have to admit that this got a double look from me cause i for real thought someone had unzipped this utility pole for a hot second. I know, i know.... I don't even know why I let myself out in public. But, I mean, this is kinda cool, right?!

hope ya'll had a good weekend! gnight!

day 223: giving up on the rain

the usual post rain situation in new york involves broken umbrellas strewn across the streets. people everywhere just giving up on their rain protection devices and the evidence is on every corner. exihibit a for April 09.

gnight!

Day 223 merches

Packing sucks. Packing displays that have to be recreated to the exact degree sucks even more. I took pictures of all the displays today and this one is pretty neat, actually. That's all. My life is merch.

222: street parade for.... Christ?

hopefully you can make out exactly what's going on in this picture. It's the view from my apt. of a crazy Good Friday / Easter parade going down Columbus Ave. It was way loud, complete with ladies singing and reading Spanish scripture through a megaphone and way obstructing my peace! I heard them coming from at least 5 blocks away and it seemed to last forever. I'm all about celebrating holidays, but I do believe that you should pick a venue and stick to it. No need to take your religious celebration to the streets, right??

Day 222 goes into the light

The DC Metro is pretty awesome. It's not perfect, but what system is. Aside from being wired for cell service and announcing how far away the next train is (in minutes), there are some pretty incredible stations with some pretty incredible views. This is going up the escalator as we exited the station. I think it speaks for itself.

Day 221 appreciates the beauty

I don't get to have Shabbat or chag very often anymore but I miss it. It's the most restful, relaxed time I ever get. Turning everything off, putting everything away, shutting out the world for a few hours. There's just nothing like it. Tani and I took a walk yesterday (a Berkowitz Shabbos/chag requirement) and through the neighborhood of Silver Springs, MD where we were staying. It was really beautiful and (in non-chag style) I grabbed this shot as we crossed a bridge. Totally peaceful and just what I needed.

Day 220 flies the friendly skies

I really like flying first thing in the morning. Less traffic getting to the airport, fewer people in line, easier to fall asleep on the flight. All of these things occurred Wednesday morning as I jetted down to DC for Seder. I grabbed my last chametz at a gross Johnny Rockets before finding my gate and snapped this picture between bites of the grossest omelet I've ever had and the worst coffee I've ever tasted. The bagel was good and, after all, that was the most important part since I'm not saying "goodbye" to eggs or coffee for a week...

day 221: traveling food

i love this place! Well, as of now, I just like the idea of it since I haven't actually tried the food yet. Concept: Traveling mexican food street vendor. Never in the same place, completely random locations (but I've seen them twice in the soho area), and delicious smelling food! I so badly want to try the food but both times I've already had lunch when I see them. But I am determined!! I'll report back once i've had a tasting.

day 220: train to trickery

I like the witty-ness attempted with this sticker placement (see top right corner). In fact, it blends so well that I almost thought the MTA was behind it and telling me that this 4 train actually goes to "Pokipse". It was alost about 8:40am and I had no coffee in me and had walked out of my apartment, down the hall and almost out of the building before i realized i had no shoes on.... so awkward.

But back to "Pokipse". I hope this guy sells books. I hope people are interested in his intentional mispelling of a word. I know I'm interested in why the author was trying to confuse vulnerable and dazed morning commute passengers with his trickery....

gnight!

Day 219 makes a cameo

Being on tour has totally screwed up my sleep schedule (not that I ever had a great one before) and I'm always tired at the wrong times and rarin' to go at the wrong times. Sometimes I just want another hour. Sometimes I want to take a picture of what sleep looks like so I can remember when I'm not getting enough...
