day 247: new york is a city of beauty

back story: NY tv stations have had a ton of anti-smoking campaigns lately. Really sad commercials about smokers having to get amputations, reminders about free nicotine patches, etc.... So with that in mind, I present to you the ash tray of Varick St and Canal St. I was completely amused by this pile of cigarettes and trash in general, and it seemed artistic. no? too much of a stretch? you hate when i take pictures of the street and trash? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE! speak to us!

(i'm not really crazy...)
on that note, good night all!

Day 246 is amazed

Sometimes I forget how beautiful California really is. It hits me at weird moments like today, while doing 70 on 280. It was a weird sunny/cloudy/hot-ish/humid-ish day, very abnormal for us especially in May. I took several pictures of the road and the sky and each one looks like a different season. I like this one because of all the variety in the clouds and because you can see the Santa Cruz Mountains in the distance. I love a lot of places in the world very much, but the Bay Area will always top the list.

day 246: point of reference

if you ask me, this little mix of new york street life is a gallery all in itself. We've got starbucks ice coffee, stand pipe, trash and FIT ads in the background, and of course this gorgeous T-stand advertising this gallery. perfect. I don't know what it all means, but it definitely is new york trying to send me a sign, i'm sure of it.

Day 245 stands out in a crowd

Giants fans are crazy in a different way than other baseball fans. They're loud and vocal and creative and exuberant and... totally Bay Area-ish. If you don't know what that exactly means I can't really help you. Suffice it to say these ladies sum it up pretty well. The were sitting two rows behind us at the game today and they had the most intricate hats I've ever seen at a game. I tried my hardest to get a good view of the hats and it's a shame you can't really see the fronts. I didn't want to blatantly hold my phone in their faces (although being from the Bay Area they probably would have posed happily) so this is all I got. Trust me when I tell you these hats represent hours and hours of dedication and attention to detail. Each is decorated with a field (complete with little fake grass, a sand diamond, white bases, and action figures at each position) and meticulously painted to perfection. In a stadium of 30,000 fans, these two get my vote.

ed: The new app I've been using to update from my phone is a huge time-saver and incredibly convenient but I'm sure you've noticed a decline in size and quality of the photos. For this reason I went back in tonight and uploaded the pictures at full size (and replaced one that was mistakenly posted). Some of them are pretty great, so now go back and take a second look!

day 245: under the bridge

it was a nice ride down to NY today, until the rain started. At this point, AVH the driver (that's me) had a mild panic attack. With the rain and the wind and the cops and the MA driving laws, it was all just too much. So - we switched me over to the comfort of the passenger seat for the rest of the way into new york. (for the record, i did drive for 3 hours). Just as we were entering the city we passed this bridge. As a someone who's lived in new york for almost 5 years, i'm ashamed to say i have NO idea what bridge this is. But it does photograph well!

Day 244 searches for the higher meaning

I know there's an important message in here somewhere. Someone is trying to communicate something. Obviously we're not very good about our signs in California...

day 244: take a load off

Today was a rigorous day of moving the sister out of the dorms, driving in MA, more moving and loading up cars, then finally... some rest. This is my sister and my uncle at my aunt's house, takin a load off and relaxing in the living room tonight. Just the kind of nights that I know and love. Movies and family and nothing else. perfect.

(ps. 500th post, y'all!!)

Day 243 is not like the others

This shopping center is right on my way home and the sign has been like this as long as I can remember. Makes me laugh every time I see it.

day 243: the road less traveled

I know i've tried a few times to get a good pic from my many bus trips up North. I think I finally got one I like!! This was at the beginning of the trip because about 2 hours later I was unable to move or think due to motion sickness, a raging migraine and a fierece hunger that was making both the motion sickness and the migraine worse. Oh, it was a not a good time. BUT i did get this picture before it all went down hill.

Day 242 is a lonely goatherd

Our part of the Bay Area has a lot of open space that is preserved by the state, county, city, private groups, etc. This field is near Shoreline in Mountain View (right near Googleplex and some Johnson and Johnson buildings) and the other day it was suddenly filled with goats. My dad explained that often times goats are brought in to eat all the dead weeds and then herded up and moved to the next spot. I think it's hysterical and I stopped by today to snap this shot.

day 242: LOVE

I love (!) that I found this today. It was not here as of Tuesday cause I walked this street that day. Or i was just walking so quickly and so into my head and thoughts I just walked right by. I hope that wasn't the case cause it makes me said that I miss beautiful and awesome scenes like this when i'm in my own head space. h'anyway. Here's some love that exists on the streets. Yes, love.

gnight!

Day 241 heeds the warnings

My dad and stepmom are remodeling the house and the patio was the first thing to go. Actually the very first thing to go were the steps out our back door. This left us with a hole and no way to get down into it. The construction crew put up this sign which I think is hilarious. Our pets, however, do not.

day 241: flyin high

Only in soho....

Day 240 is curious

Steph got a new cat. And by "got" I mean "found in the bushes". And by "cat" I mean "this kitten is a tiny fuzzball that fits in my hand and is too tiny to be real". And is also too adorable for words.

PS. We're 2/3 done with this little blogject of ours.
