day 73: fresh and clean

here's the cold truth. new york is nasty. sure there are some pristine tree-lined streets with no garbage, no homeless, and no personality, but i don't live there and I know maybe 2 people who do. and they pay too much.

A lot of the time New York looks like this. week old garbage piled up and overflowing and a lot of people walking by who could care less. It's charming, almost. As long as you're permanently equipped with some kind of hand sanitizer you'll make it through.

Day 72 gives back

There was a flyer under my door the other day announcing that the building had a box for food donations in the lobby. Here it is. Empty. Way to go, guys. I have my cans ready to bring down tomorrow. Where are yours?

day 72: crunch-tastic

today my eyes were opened to the wonderful world of CRUNCHY gummi bears. do you guys know about these??!

I'll admit, i was nervous at first. how can you add more sugary goodness to an already wonderful snack? also just the word "crunchy" before "gummi" made me uncomfortable. but one bite into that crunchy/gummi awesomeness and I was a believer. These funny looking creatures are seriously amazing. AMAZING.

Okay, I don't care what state you're in, these are not bananas. Mini or otherwise. Something is clearly wrong here. Though it would be kinda funny to see someone slip on this peel, eh?

day 71: the nightmare

i snapped this beauty on my phone camera around the corner from work this morning. I went back hoping the wind would have moved the sign so you could see the whole thing, but alas! the wind conquered all. but you can still make out what was being said here. and what was being sad was a beautiful message of anti-bush love.

Day 70 is ashamed and so am I

I'm sorry this is late. I won't go into it. Suffice it to say I took these fun blurred pictures because it's about all I could get together. In my defense, they were taken yesterday so my only crime is not posting before I went to sleep. And for that I'm sorry (Screw-up Score so far: E-3, A-2). To make up for my indiscretion, here are several photos instead of just one. Came out better than this one, eh?

day 70: more autumn colors

i really tried to find a super cool and trendy new york urban picture. but sometimes i'm so struck by the random beauty of nature in this city that i have to capture it. this happened to be the best picture of the bunch from today so you can all enjoy both the incredible reds and oranges on this tree and the nice brownstone-like building in the background. it also happened to be a beautiful day, a swift change from the monsoon we saw yesterday. enjoy fall wherever you are!!

Then Day 69 is in A LOT of pain

Chicago has the greatest signs posted outside construction sites. Either construction crews here take safety precautions VERY seriously and work hard to remind each other about the danger that comes with the job, or construction workers here are dumb. So we've learned that:

A=Stupid
B=Hurts
C=Frequently

2. B=C

ergo: this city is a bunch of morons, constantly in pain.

day 69: autumn colors

POW! there it is. a little box full of Fall. i dont know what half of these are. are they edible? are they solely for martha stewart decorating purposes? are they supposed to be so bumpy?

but the most important question.... can any of these mystery items be made into a pie?? i'm craving a pumpkin pie like you don't even know and i think i see a little baby pumpkin in there. and to that pumpkin i say this.... get in my belly.

day 68: if you look close enough....

thank you to elie for that beautiful letter to our readers. maybe if you look close enough you can see a little obama head somewhere within this streetside artistic masterpiece. it seems the area below 4th street in manhattan is its own art museum. i'll be on this kick for a couple days till we bring it right back to obama..... at least i'm honest!

Day 68: A message to the readers

Dear Readers,
I apologize that we at the Pho365 Headquarters (don't exist yet) are obsessed with our new president (not in office yet) and everything his administration (not formed yet) stands for. Everywhere we look there are graphs, charts, maps and holograms (lame, CNN) explaining why he's awesome and that other guy isn't. We see news tickers running over everything and Soledad O'Brien explaining, yet AGAIN, that race is absolutely a factor, just not a barrier (used to be you, Wolf, but you sat down on the air and we're NOT forgetting it any time soon). As such, it is taking us some time to adjust to life after the election (IT'S ONLY BEEN THREE DAYS, OK??!) and we still see Obama's face everywhere we look. Actually, that part wasn't me being dramatic, it's just fact. I, Elie Berkowitz, President and Co-Founder of Pho365 (fake title), do hereby swear that our all-consuming obsession with president-elect Barack Obama will eventually fade and stop penetrating our very serious (not at all serious) work here at Pho365. Until then, LOOK! OBAMA'S FACE ON RIPPED POSTER ON A NEWSPAPER STAND!!!

day 67: obama-drive

at work my boss and i decided to name our backup hardrive.... why not name him obama, she suggested. So obama we named him. but was that enough? oh no. in case there was to be any confusion as to what we meant by "obama", this happened.

day 66: regarding the rats

perhaps some of you remember day 29 . I know I do. that huge day 29 rat is still there and greets me daily on my walks to the train.

Today i snapped a shot of this gem. SAME RAT ARTIST! my wonderfully brilliant friend paloma told me that its by this amazing artist, banksy who does incredible social art – indoors, outdoors and most of the time vandalism in some way shape or form.

you should really check his stuff out. incredible in scale alone! but besides that they're just thoughtful and great social commentaries.
